You know, more and more often I am asked the question “How do you know English so well??». To be honest, I’m already tired of answering it. Seriously. Therefore, I decided to create a small post where I would tell the story of my acquaintance with the English language. I doubt that this will be of interest to anyone, but the blog will be useful to me in any case to answer the question mentioned above. I do not guarantee that the story will be interesting, that there will be no captivity in it.
My acquaintance with English took place at the same time as my acquaintance with school. Yes, I, like most people, have spoken English since first grade. How? I haven’t told you about my school yet? Well, then listen and imagine: I am studying at school number 2, specialized in English, levels I-III,. D.AND. Ulyanova.
So, I went to 1st grade. Like everyone else in 1st grade, I studied well and diligently. After the 1st grade, I became lazy in learning English, which is why I immediately got several bad marks, which was the reason for my visits to a tutor (who also happens to be my English teacher). I went to a tutor for about a year, not much, not little, yes? I improved my English, became a good student, one of the best in the class.
Seeing that my results had www.sportingbet-casino.co.uk improved significantly, my parents stopped paying for my visits to the tutor. A year passed, I went to 4th grade. And then I came across one game (yes, you all know it) called World of Warcraft. The game was completely (from the licensing agreement to the phrases of the last bosses in the game) in English, which made me a little depressing. The knowledge of English that I received at school was critically insufficient, so I followed the path called “I asked, asked again, clarified, tried to remember, repeat these actions several times in a circle.”. Yes, I asked other people what this or that word means (I was in 4th grade, what google translator are you talking about?). Several years have passed at this rate.
Standing on the ruler, proudly marked “9-B” under your feet. Around the first of September, I was introduced to SG blogs.ru. It was a pleasant acquaintance, I visited many topics, but the only topic that I remember was the “Hall of Fame” by a certain Yetti. Agree, when a newcomer finds himself on a new portal, he immediately wants to become famous, I was no exception. I set myself the goal of earning a place among the bloggers listed in this topic. I started my little blogging activity.
A week has passed, second. I noticed Des’s topics, in which translations from the M group were provided for human judgment.A.T.S. I was still wondering how I could earn a reputation, and even in the “Hall. » get there? Everything turned out to be very simple, all I had to do was write to Des, and he immediately gave me the task. As I remember now, it was a translation of the trailer for AC:B. Pathetic speech, elementary phrases, but for me it was a difficult task. I submitted the trailer, Des edited the text, and soon the video was already on blogs. I thought I’d get fame right away. Ha! How naive I was. I had to translate the videos, one by one. They started to notice me. But the story, as you remember, is not about my appearance on blogs, yes? So I’ll make a sharp leap in time.
After the New Year, I completely joined the blogging team, riveted works for MATS, received the nickname, Taya (thanks to Stig for this!), participated in radio and streams. And it was then that I thought about serious work in the field of translations. I searched a little on the Internet, but unfortunately I didn’t find anything. And then it was as if someone from above heard me: a certain A. Makoveev created a topic where he announced a competition for translators/reviewers/useless garbage for the mmorpg portal.su. I scrolled through the topic, read the comments and decided to try myself as a guide translator. On the list of games for which guides could be translated was one of my favorite games, World of Warcraft. And, as I already wrote, I spent more than one year studying this game. After painstaking work that took me all weekend, I prepared and submitted two guides on the development of professions, on archeology and herbalism. Yes, I was accepted to this portal.
Soon I gave up on mmorpg.su and on M.A.T.S. because I’m tired of translations. I decided to rest until May, but exams suddenly came up. Yes, I had to cram, getting ready. In the summer, as many have noticed, I almost didn’t appear on blogs; my relatives came to visit me, which made it a little more difficult for me to access the Internet, because they also had to be allowed to play. In my free time I played a good game, HoN.
And now, my friends, September has arrived. I decided to return to the translation environment, so I agreed with Alexander Chernov about my work in collaboration with the KiNaTan studio. As many have already heard from me, I will be translating the 4th season of the series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”. I also already have two works with this studio: the first and second.
That’s basically all. Thank you for taking the time to read the entire text. I would like to say “Thank you very much” to SG and the blogs, because before I met this portal, I did not know what path, what profession I should choose in life. Now I decided to enter SevNTU for “Translation and Translation Theory”.
